Koro community is located near Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, both within Nigeria’s North-Central region.

The attack occurred just days after a deadly raid on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, where no fewer than 75 people were killed. Several houses and properties were also destroyed in that earlier incident.

Confirming the casualty figure, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief that 75 deaths had been recorded from the February 3 attack, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. She added that investigations were still ongoing.

Following the renewed violence, President Bola Tinubu condemned the attacks and ordered the immediate deployment of troops to the affected areas. Speaking during a meeting with Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the President described the assault as inhumane and vowed to confront the perpetrators.

Tinubu announced the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area to lead Operation Savannah Shield, a military initiative aimed at countering terrorist activities and safeguarding vulnerable communities in the state.
