EU, ARAB LEAGUE, 85 NATIONS CONDEMN ISRAEL OVER WEST BANK ANNEXATION, CALL FOR IMMEDIATE REVERSAL

A coalition of 85 countries, along with several international organisations, has strongly condemned Israel’s recent policies and unilateral actions in the occupied West Bank, warning that they violate international law and threaten fragile prospects for peace in the Middle East.

The joint statement, announced on Monday and shared by the State of Palestine, represents nations across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, as well as multilateral bodies including the League of Arab States, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the European Union.

The coalition denounced unilateral Israeli decisions aimed at expanding its presence in the West Bank, stressing that such measures contradict Israel’s international obligations and must be immediately reversed. The countries reiterated their opposition to any form of annexation of Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and warned that actions altering realities on the ground jeopardize regional stability and peace efforts.

The statement emphasized that measures reshaping Palestinian lands occupied since 1967 are unlawful and undermine the prospects for a negotiated peace. Signatories reaffirmed their commitment to international legal frameworks, including the International Court of Justice’s July 2024 advisory opinion, and expressed readiness to take concrete steps, in line with international law, to support Palestinian self-determination and counter illegal settlements.

The coalition reaffirmed that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through a negotiated political settlement based on a two-state solution, where an independent Palestine and Israel coexist side by side in security and democracy. The statement cited UN resolutions, the Madrid peace framework, and the Arab Peace Initiative as guiding principles for ending the occupation.

This coordinated declaration marks one of the broadest multilateral condemnations of Israeli policies in recent months, reflecting growing international concern that continued settlement expansion and administrative actions in the West Bank could permanently undermine Palestinian statehood.
