During the flag-off ceremony, Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, formally announced the operation. He said, “So, we are here to flag off a joint task force nicknamed Operation Savannah Shield.”

General Oluyede explained that the operation’s aim is to curb criminal activities and protect residents. “Under that umbrella, we will have the Army, Navy, and Air Force components, and we believe that with this robust approach, we should be able to checkmate the activities of the enemies of this state,” he said.

The CDS also visited Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to personally offer condolences over recent casualties caused by insecurity. “I am here in Kwara first to visit His Excellency, Governor of Kwara State AbdulRahman, and to personally commiserate with him over the insecurity casualties. I am also here to inform him that we have come to see how we can checkmate all the atrocities committed by the enemies of the state,” he added.

The operation will see the combined deployment of land, maritime, and air units across the state, working in a coordinated manner to reinforce security, prevent attacks, and protect citizens. The Nigerian military emphasized that this collaborative effort is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen ties with the state government and ensure public safety.
