Police officers in Lagos State rescued a man who tried to jump into a lagoon at night after discovering his wife’s infidelity during a live video call. The man, visibly distressed, was pulled to safety by police and local residents before the attempt could succeed.

Footage circulating online shows him crying and remaining connected to the call with his wife while authorities intervened. Rather than receiving support, the man was reportedly scolded, beaten, and questioned about why he considered ending his life over the situation.

The incident has sparked widespread online debate. Some criticised his actions, urging him to move on and not let another person’s betrayal dictate his life. Others expressed empathy, highlighting the emotional shock and humiliation caused by discovering infidelity, especially publicly. A few commenters suggested retaliation, though many emphasised the importance of preserving life first.

This episode has drawn attention to the mental health implications of relationship betrayals and the need for compassionate intervention during personal crises.
