NPA Facilitates Clearance of Abandoned NDPHC Power Equipment at Nigerian Ports
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has facilitated the recovery and clearance of critical power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) that had remained abandoned at various seaports.
The intervention is expected to support the timely execution of major electricity projects across the country while helping the NDPHC avoid potential losses running into billions of naira.
NDPHC Managing Director, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the company’s management team to NPA Managing Director, Abubakar Dantsoho, and his team in Lagos.
Adighije commended the port authority for its intervention, describing the recovery and clearance of the equipment as important to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and ensuring that ongoing and planned projects are delivered effectively.
She explained that the equipment was required for several critical projects and that prolonged delays in retrieving and clearing the consignments could have disrupted project schedules, increased costs and slowed efforts to improve electricity supply.
According to her, the NPA’s intervention not only enabled the recovery of the valuable equipment but also protected the NDPHC from potential financial losses estimated at billions of naira.
The NDPHC chief called for continued cooperation between the two organisations and other government agencies operating in the energy and maritime sectors.
She said stronger collaboration would help eliminate bureaucratic obstacles and prevent delays that could affect the delivery of important infrastructure projects.
Adighije also stressed that timely clearance of power-sector equipment was necessary to ensure contractors and project teams have access to the materials they need to complete their assignments within schedule.
She expressed appreciation to the NPA management for its cooperation in resolving issues surrounding the movement and clearance of NDPHC consignments through Nigerian ports.
Responding, Dantsoho commended the NDPHC management for the engagement and reaffirmed the NPA’s willingness to support partnerships that contribute to national development.
He noted that a reliable electricity supply remains essential to Nigeria’s economic growth, industrialisation and improvement in living standards.
The NPA managing director assured the NDPHC that the authority would continue to support the smooth movement and clearance of critical equipment, particularly consignments required for projects aimed at improving the country’s infrastructure.
The development is expected to strengthen cooperation between the maritime and power sectors while helping to prevent valuable electricity infrastructure from remaining idle at Nigerian ports.
