Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine never posed a threat to Iran, accusing the Iranian regime of deliberately supporting Russia by supplying “Shahed” drones and other military technology used to attack Ukrainian civilians, cities, and critical infrastructure.

Speaking amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Zelenskyy said, “Although Ukrainians never threatened Iran, the Iranian regime chose to become Putin’s accomplice, supplying him with Shahed drones and the technologies to produce them, along with other weapons.”
The Ukrainian leader highlighted the massive scale of the drone attacks, noting that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, over 57,000 Shahed-type drones have been used against Ukrainian targets, including residential areas and energy facilities, causing widespread power outages and disruption.

Zelenskyy emphasised that Iran’s military support for Russia has consequences beyond Ukraine. “Other nations have also suffered from Iranian-backed terror. The Iranian people deserve the chance to rid themselves of a terrorist regime and ensure security for all nations affected,” he said.

He reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to preventing further escalation while protecting lives. “Our position is clear. It is crucial to preserve as many lives as possible and prevent the war from expanding,” Zelenskyy added.

The president praised the United States’ decisive role in global security, asserting that strong American leadership weakens destabilizing actors. “Whenever there is American resolve, global criminals weaken. This understanding must also reach the Russians,” he said.

Zelenskyy concluded with hope that current turbulence in the Middle East could ultimately improve regional stability. “We expect the Middle East will become safer and more stable. Ukraine is ready to assist every nation in strengthening security, promoting justice, and reducing terrorist threats,” he stated.
