Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has paid tribute to Nigerian women both within the country and in the diaspora, describing them as a vital force behind the nation’s growth and development.

In a message marking the International Women’s Day in 2026, the President praised the resilience, courage, and determination shown by women across different sectors of society.
He noted that women continue to play important roles in homes, farms, markets, workplaces, and leadership spaces, adding that their strength and dedication contribute greatly to keeping the nation moving forward.

According to him, women serve as caregivers who nurture families, entrepreneurs who create opportunities, professionals who provide leadership, and citizens who actively shape the country’s future.
He also recognised the historic and ongoing contributions of women to Nigeria’s democratic journey and economic development. Many women, he said, have helped strengthen the nation by challenging barriers and working tirelessly to support their families and communities.

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that women and girls have the opportunities they need to succeed. He stressed the importance of creating an environment where every girl can access education and every woman can participate fully in economic and national development.

He added that the progress of women is closely tied to the progress of the nation, noting that when women succeed, the country benefits as a whole.
The message concluded with a tribute to the strength, sacrifices, and lasting contributions of women to Nigeria’s national story.
