U.S. EMBASSY WARNS OF POSSIBLE TERROR THREAT AGAINST AMERICAN FACILITIES, SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA

The advisory, released late Monday, highlighted that American nationals should be especially cautious when visiting the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, and other U.S.-affiliated institutions. Citizens were advised to vary travel routes and schedules to avoid predictable patterns that could increase risk.

Recommended measures include staying aware of surroundings, keeping a low profile, reviewing personal security plans with family members, avoiding large gatherings, and remaining alert in public places. The embassy also emphasized the importance of familiarizing oneself with emergency exits in buildings and keeping cell phones charged for emergencies.

The advisory encouraged U.S. citizens to stay informed on security developments and travel risks by consulting official guidance, including the Nigeria Country Information page on the U.S. State Department’s travel website.

Despite the warning, the embassy confirmed that its consular services remain fully operational, with both the Abuja Embassy and Lagos Consulate General continuing to provide assistance to U.S. citizens.
