Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared that the country will determine when the ongoing conflict with the United States comes to an end.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the decision on the conclusion of the war would rest entirely with Iran.
“It is we who will determine the end of the war,” the Guards said.
“The equations and future status of the region are now in the hands of our armed forces; American forces will not end the war,” the statement added.
In a separate interview with PBS News, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said negotiations with the United States were no longer being considered following what he described as a “very bitter experience” during earlier nuclear talks.
According to Araghchi, Iran had previously been assured that there were no plans to attack the country and that efforts were being made to resolve the nuclear issue through peaceful negotiations.
“They promised us that they don’t have any intention to attack us, and they wanted to resolve Iran’s nuclear question peacefully and find a negotiated solution. Still, they decided to attack us,” he said.
The minister also stressed that Iran would continue to defend itself against any aggression.
The conflict, which has heightened instability across the Middle East, reportedly began on February 28 after the United States and Israel launched missile strikes on Iran.
The attack led to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, further escalating tensions in the region.
