The 2026 edition of the Finalissima, the high-profile match between European champions Spain and South American champions Argentina, has been cancelled by UEFA due to the ongoing political crisis in the Middle East.

UEFA explained that despite extensive discussions with Qatari organisers and attempts to find an alternative date, no agreement could be reached with Argentina. Several proposals were explored, including staging the match in Madrid with equal fan allocation, playing over two legs in Europe and South America, or holding the game at a neutral venue, but all were declined.

The governing body expressed disappointment over the cancellation, noting that circumstances prevented the two champions from competing for the trophy. UEFA also thanked Qatari authorities for their efforts in preparing to host the match and expressed hope for a return of stability in the region.

The Finalissima, created in cooperation with UEFA and CONMEBOL, features the champions of Europe and South America in a showcase match. Argentina, reigning world champions, won the inaugural 2022 edition by defeating Italy 3–0 at Wembley Stadium.
