ARMY, OTHERS REPEL TERRORIST ATTACK IN BORNO

Combined security operatives, including troops from the land and air components of Operation Hadin Kai, the Police, and the Civilian Joint Task Force, successfully repelled a heavy terrorist assault on Monday at Ajilari Cross in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The attackers stormed the area around 12:35 a.m., firing sporadically before security forces were mobilised. ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying the assault had been thwarted by the coordinated efforts of police, military, Civilian Joint Task Force members, hunters, and Civil Defence personnel.

“Yes, there was a suspected terrorist attack in Ajilari. As of this time, I can confirm that the attack has been foiled by combined security operatives,” Daso said.

Regarding casualties, the police spokesperson noted, “For now, we are yet to get any information regarding that,” and urged the public to avoid sharing unverified reports. Residents also confirmed that calm had returned to the city. Sani Kidda, a Maiduguri resident said, “Everywhere is calm now, and the tension has reduced,” while calling for continued security vigilance to reassure the public.

The attack comes days after terrorists struck Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area, burning a military base, killing civilians, and abducting over 300 residents. Less than 48 hours after that incident, a group identified as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad claimed responsibility, warning of further attacks on Maiduguri and Abuja. In a video statement, a group member admitted to beheading men and women in Ngoshe and vowed to extend their operations.

The coordinated response at Ajilari Cross demonstrates the ongoing efforts of security forces to protect residents and prevent further escalation of violence in Borno State.
