Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted a Nigerian Immigration officer, Umar Yusuf, during a daylight attack on the Immigration Service outpost in Balia community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to residents, the assailants, riding motorcycles, launched the assault around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, overpowering officers stationed at the facility. The outpost is situated along Babanna Road, near the Benin Republic border, a route known for repeated incidents of banditry and terrorist attacks.

An anonymous officer told Daily Trust that the attackers seized two AK-47 rifles loaded with ammunition from personnel during the raid.
Babanna Road has a history of violent incidents. In November 2025, terrorists attacked a convoy belonging to the member representing Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency, Hon. Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, killing two soldiers and injuring other security operatives and civilians.
Similarly, in July 2025, a Superintendent of Immigration, Suleiman, was killed by suspected ISWAP operatives at a service outpost along the Babanna–Wawa Road. The officer was reportedly killed and his body and service carbine set on fire.
Security agencies have yet to provide an update on the rescue of Umar Yusuf or the apprehension of the attackers, raising concerns over the safety of personnel along this high-risk corridor.
