EFCC STORMS MALAMI’S HOMES AFTER ATIKU’S VISIT

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday moved into properties linked to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, taking control of his residences and offices in an operation his aides have described as illegal and politically motivated.

The action reportedly occurred shortly after a visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to Malami’s residence.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami’s camp accused the EFCC of acting without proper legal authorization and ignoring an ongoing court case. The statement alleged that operatives, accompanied by armed security personnel, entered the properties, marked them, and assumed control without presenting any valid court order. It also claimed that two individuals were detained during the operation.

According to the statement, the matter is still pending before the Federal High Court in Abuja, with no final ruling yet delivered. It further argued that a previously obtained interim forfeiture order had already expired and could not justify the commission’s actions.

Malami’s team maintained that officials failed to provide any legal backing when requested during the operation, describing the move as a violation of due process and an abuse of power. They warned that such actions could undermine the rule of law and set a troubling precedent.

While reaffirming Malami’s support for anti-corruption efforts, the statement emphasized that such actions must be carried out within legal boundaries. It added that he remains willing to cooperate with lawful investigations and will challenge the situation through appropriate legal means.
