ARMY PULLS OUT 18 GENERALS AFTER 35 YEARS OF SERVICE

The Nigerian Army has retired 18 senior officers, all at the rank of Major General, after they completed 35 years of service to the country.

The retirement was marked with a colourful pulling-out parade in Benin, Edo State, bringing to a close a three-day conference focused on improving logistics and transport support for military operations.

Speaking at the event, the Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Danjuma Shagaya, said the retirees included four Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals who had served with dedication from the time they were commissioned.

He described the ceremony as both a celebration and a recognition of their long years of commitment and sacrifice to the nation.

According to him, the pulling-out parade is a long-standing military tradition that honours officers at the end of their careers and gives the institution an opportunity to appreciate their contributions.

Shagaya also commended the leadership of the army for recognising the efforts of the retiring officers by ensuring representation at the ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Major General Olaniyi Dare said their careers spanned decades of active service across different operational, command, and administrative roles.

He noted that the Corps of Supply and Transport plays a vital role in the effectiveness of the army, ensuring that troops are properly equipped and sustained during missions.

Dare added that whether in training, peacekeeping missions, or internal security operations, the corps remained committed to providing reliable logistical support.

He said that although they were leaving active service, their commitment to the values of the Nigerian Army would remain strong, adding that they would always be available to contribute their experience when needed.

He also used the opportunity to appreciate the families of the officers, acknowledging the sacrifices they made throughout their careers, including long periods of separation and constant relocations.

The ceremony, he said, was not just symbolic but also a moment to reflect on years of service, sacrifice, and dedication to national defence.
