‘THERE’S NO PLAN B’: INFANTINO INSISTS IRAN’S WORLD CUP GAMES IN USA ARE DECIDED

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Iran will take part in the 2026 World Cup as planned, despite rising geopolitical tensions.

Speaking in a recent interview, Infantino made it clear that there are no backup plans for the tournament. According to him, “Plan A” remains the only option, stressing that FIFA is focused on ensuring all qualified teams, including Iran national football team, compete under the best possible conditions.

He acknowledged the complexity of the global situation but maintained that football should serve as a unifying force. Infantino said while FIFA cannot solve political conflicts, it can help bring people together through the game and promote peace on a global stage.

The clarification follows concerns raised by Iranian football authorities, who had considered moving their group-stage matches from the United States to Mexico due to security fears. However, FIFA has not approved any such changes.

Reports also indicate that Infantino recently met with Donald Trump, who reportedly assured that Iran would be allowed to participate and would be supported throughout the tournament.

Despite earlier uncertainty, Iran remains scheduled to compete in Group G, having qualified on merit. While there have been suggestions of a possible diplomatic boycott of the United States, the team is still expected to feature at the tournament.

Infantino concluded by reiterating FIFA’s commitment to keeping football inclusive, insisting that the World Cup should remain a platform for unity, celebration, and global connection.
