Federal Fire Service Explains Long Convoy at C-G’s Homecoming
The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi, has addressed questions about the unusually long convoy during his recent homecoming in Kogi State. He attributed the convoy’s size to the attendance of Deputy Controllers-General (DCGs), Assistant Controllers-General (ACGs), and other senior officers who accompanied him.
Earlier, the agency had posted on X that Adeyemi’s visit included courtesy calls and a grand reception, noting that he “returns home to Kogi, receives royal blessings, as stakeholders commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and call for stronger fire safety.” The post was later removed after it sparked reactions over the large number of vehicles, motorbikes, and crowds involved.

In a statement on Tuesday, signed by P.O. Abraham, National PRO and Head of Corporate Services, the Fire Service clarified that the Controller-General himself only travelled with his official vehicle, a pilot vehicle, and essential security support.
“The additional vehicles observed were those of DCGs, ACGs, and other senior officers attending the event,” the statement said. “Their presence was part of the Service’s management team, a deliberate decision to ensure proper coordination and security coverage during the high-profile gathering.”
The Service emphasised its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and responsible public engagement. It assured Nigerians that all official movements are guided by necessity, safety, and best practices.
The Controller-General also expressed gratitude to the Bunu Progressive Forum and the Kabba community for their warm reception and honour during the visit.
