The African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by David Mark, has announced the expulsion of its factional chairman, Nafiu Bala, along with Leke Abejide, the lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, over alleged anti-party activities and attempts to destabilise the party.
The decision was made during the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Tuesday, an event attended by over 3,000 participants and themed “So That Nigeria May Work.” Several other members, including Kingsley Temitope, Noman Obinna, Kennedy Odion, Stella Chukwuma, and others, were also expelled.
According to the party, the affected individuals were removed for alleged misconduct, anti-party actions, and efforts to create internal confusion within the party structure. The motion for their expulsion was presented by Senator Binos Yaroe and supported by Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki.
The convention comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the ADC, which has faced prolonged internal conflict since 2025. The crisis began following disagreements over leadership transition arrangements after the tenure of former chairman Ralph Nwosu ended in 2022, eventually leading to the emergence of rival factions claiming authority within the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier removed key figures associated with the party’s leadership from its official register following a court directive to maintain the status quo pending legal resolution.
The ADC is currently divided into multiple factions, including one led by David Mark, another aligned with Nafiu Bala, and a third linked to the 2023 presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu.
Despite the internal crisis, the Mark-led faction proceeded with its national convention and reaffirmed its leadership structure.
