The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has raised concerns over what it described as growing legal and administrative disputes with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), warning that unresolved issues could disrupt preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, the party’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, accused INEC of failing to comply with court judgments relating to the recognition of party leadership structures.

Olaposi warned that continued disregard for judicial orders could trigger fresh litigation that may affect the electoral timetable and create uncertainty ahead of the polls.
“It is disturbing that INEC—an institution led by a professor of law and a senior advocate of Nigeria—should refuse to obey court orders,” he said.
He cited a recent Federal Capital Territory High Court judgment which reportedly directed INEC to recognise Dr Agbo Major-led National Working Committee of the NNPP and update its records within 72 hours.
According to him, despite being duly served, the commission has yet to comply weeks after the ruling.
“What is evident is that time has been running against INEC since the judgment was delivered. The commission was properly served, and proof of service is on record,” Olaposi said.

The NNPP warned that if INEC fails to comply within seven days, the party would initiate contempt proceedings and pursue the matter up to the Supreme Court if necessary.
The party also called on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to intervene and ensure strict compliance with court orders to prevent disruptions in the electoral process.
“We call on the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Chief Justice of Nigeria to look into what is happening at INEC,” the statement added.

Olaposi further urged reforms within the electoral body, particularly in its legal department, to restore public confidence and strengthen democratic institutions.
He cautioned that INEC’s alleged actions could undermine public trust in the electoral system and run contrary to the principles of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
The NNPP maintained that it remains committed to defending its mandate through legal means while insisting on fairness and equal treatment for all political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
