Nigeria’s new Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has assured the international community that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to addressing the country’s security challenges and tackling long-standing grievances affecting national stability.

He made the remarks while presenting his letter of credence to UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where he conveyed Nigeria’s position on peace, security, and global cooperation.
Ibrahim said the Nigerian government is actively working to address the root causes of insecurity, including historical and regional tensions, while also strengthening collaboration with international partners to improve stability across West Africa and the Sahel region.
He emphasized that Nigeria remains determined to contribute meaningfully to global peace efforts and support international mechanisms aimed at conflict resolution.

The envoy also reaffirmed Nigeria’s backing for reforms within the United Nations system, particularly the push for permanent representation for Africa on the UN Security Council, describing it as a historic step that would strengthen fairness and global security governance.

On domestic reforms, he highlighted key economic policies introduced by the Tinubu administration, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange unification, and monetary tightening measures. He noted that although the reforms have caused short-term difficulties, they are intended to support long-term economic stability.

Ibrahim further stressed Nigeria’s readiness to take an active role in global discussions on issues such as tax reform, climate action, and restructuring of the international financial system amid growing global debt concerns.
He also referenced ongoing international tensions and reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for UN-led diplomatic efforts to promote peace and reduce conflict worldwide.
According to him, Nigeria remains committed to working closely with the United Nations to advance peace, justice, and economic stability, both at home and globally.
