‘TINUBU DIDN’T SACK THEM’: PRESIDENCY CLARIFIES EXIT OF EDUN, DANGIWA

The Presidency has clarified that former ministers Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa were not removed from office but voluntarily stepped down from their roles in the Federal Executive Council.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, it was explained that Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, resigned on health grounds after recently turning 70.

Edun, in his resignation letter addressed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in office as both a privilege and an honour.

“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he wrote, adding that Nigeria had grown “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected” under the President’s leadership.

Before his exit was formally announced, Edun reportedly paid a valedictory visit to the Presidential Villa, where he held a private meeting with the President.

Similarly, Dangiwa, who headed the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, also tendered his resignation, thanking the President for the chance to serve.

The Presidency noted that President Tinubu appreciated both men for their contributions, particularly in driving key reforms within their respective sectors.

Following their departure, the President appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, with a mandate to build on existing reforms and strengthen fiscal policy.

In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named minister-designate and is expected to undergo Senate confirmation.

The clarification comes amid earlier reports suggesting the ministers were sacked, as part of recent adjustments within the cabinet.
