KOGI 2027 SHOWDOWN: SENATOR NATASHA DECLARES SECOND TERM, FACES OFF WITH YAHAYA BELLO

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally declared her intention to seek re-election in 2027, setting the stage for a highly anticipated political battle in the district.

She made the announcement during the Kogi Central Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Stakeholders’ Meeting, where party leaders and supporters gathered to review the direction of the party ahead of the next general elections.

Her declaration comes after months of consultations across the five local government areas of Kogi Central, with growing encouragement from constituents and political allies. She also acknowledged the support of her family in her decision to run again.

“After due consultations and encouragement from my husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she said.

The development comes as former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has also indicated interest in contesting the Kogi Central Senatorial seat, a move that has already heightened political tension in the district.

Bello reportedly made his own declaration during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he met traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders.

Akpoti-Uduaghan used her address to call for unity within the PDP, urging members to reconcile differences and work together ahead of the elections.

“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she said.

The PDP Zonal Chairman for Kogi Central, Hon. Anthony Akuvada, praised her leadership, describing her as a strong voice whose representation has had visible impact across the district.

He also noted her accessibility and consistent engagement with constituents, saying it has helped strengthen trust between the people and their elected representative.

With both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Bello now signalling interest, the 2027 race in Kogi Central is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched political contests in the state.
