Reports suggesting a possible leadership change in Lagos State have continued to circulate, with claims that a political arrangement could see Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat complete Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s current term and potentially position himself for a fresh four-year mandate in the 2027 elections.
According to unnamed sources, the alleged plan is said to involve top political actors within the ruling party, including individuals described as close to the Presidency. The reports claim there is dissatisfaction within certain political circles over the current leadership structure in the state, which has allegedly triggered conversations around a possible transition.

One source was quoted as saying the arrangement, if it materialises, would involve Governor Sanwo-Olu stepping aside before the end of his tenure, allowing his deputy to take over and complete the remaining term.
However, these claims have been firmly denied by the Lagos State Government.
In a reaction, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, dismissed the report as false and misleading, saying it should be ignored by the public.
He described the story as part of what he called a pattern of misinformation being circulated online, insisting that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains focused, in good health, and fully engaged in his duties as governor of the state.
The government maintained that there is no truth to suggestions of any forced resignation or political transition plan involving the current leadership of Lagos State.
