TINUBU TO PLATEAU LEADERS: ‘RETURN HOME AND RESTORE PEACE’ AS COMMUNAL VIOLENCE PERSISTS

President Bola Tinubu has urged leaders from Plateau State to return home and commit to lasting peace, calling for an end to the recurring cycle of violence in the state.

Bola Tinubu made the appeal on Tuesday night during a lengthy meeting at the State House in Abuja with a 32-member delegation led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other key stakeholders from Plateau State.

The President challenged the delegation to critically review past government White Papers on security crises in the state and come up with practical, implementable solutions that can finally restore peace.

He emphasized that leaders must embrace tolerance and unity, warning against actions that fuel ethnic, religious, or communal tensions. According to him, genuine peace can only be achieved when leaders commit to inclusion, fairness, and accountability in governance.

Tinubu noted that Plateau State has long been known for its diversity and harmony, stressing that this reputation must be restored through deliberate and sustained efforts. He also called on stakeholders to identify and hold accountable those who instigate violence in the state.

During the meeting, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the President for his engagement and reaffirmed the commitment of Plateau leaders to work together toward reconciliation and stability.

Caleb Mutfwang said the state was determined to overcome divisions along ethnic and religious lines and rebuild trust among communities, describing the meeting as a turning point in the peace process.

Traditional and community leaders present also backed the peace initiative, urging stronger security measures, including increased troop deployment and surveillance systems, to prevent further attacks.

The delegation further called for the return and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons, as well as stronger enforcement of the rule of law to deter criminal activity fueling insecurity.

In support of victims of recent violence, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs announced presidential approval of N2 billion in relief assistance for affected communities.

The meeting ended with a shared commitment by all stakeholders to pursue peace, strengthen unity, and restore stability in Plateau State.
