ADELABU REPLACED BY NEW MINISTER APPOINTED BY TINUBU TODAY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and forwarded his name to the Senate for confirmation.

The appointment was announced on April 30, 2026, in a statement issued by the State House and signed by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

Tegbe’s nomination follows the exit of Adebayo Adelabu, who resigned from the role to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.

A native of Oyo State, Tegbe is widely recognised for his background in finance and economic policy, with over 30 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. He previously served as a senior partner at KPMG Africa, where he played key roles in advisory services focused on governance reforms, institutional development, and policy implementation.

He currently holds the position of Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinates cooperation efforts between Nigeria and China, particularly in areas tied to development planning and international partnerships.

The presidency said the nomination is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership in critical sectors, especially in improving Nigeria’s power infrastructure and energy delivery.

Adelabu, in a letter dated April 22, had informed the President of his decision to step down effective April 30 to focus fully on his political ambition.

Tegbe’s appointment is now subject to confirmation by the Senate.
