The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it has taken over the national leadership of the party following a Supreme Court ruling that nullified its recent national convention and invalidated key leadership structures.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, the board said it was stepping in to prevent a leadership vacuum at the national level of the party.

The BoT explained that its intervention was guided by constitutional provisions within the PDP framework, following the court’s decision which affected the legitimacy of recent party leadership arrangements and conventions.
The Supreme Court ruling reportedly voided the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), and also upheld the suspension of several senior party officials.
The BoT further stated that the judgment invalidated actions taken by different factions within the party, including appointments and caretaker structures, thereby placing constitutional responsibility on the Board of Trustees as the next highest governing body.

As a result, the BoT said it has assumed interim national leadership responsibilities with the aim of stabilising the party, restoring order, and initiating reconciliation processes.
It also announced plans to convene an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to establish an interim National Working Committee that will manage the affairs of the party at the national level.

The board added that this step is necessary to ensure compliance with electoral timelines and to prepare the party for upcoming elections, including the 2027 general elections.
PDP stakeholders, including governors and members of the National Assembly caucus, were commended for their support during the crisis period.

The BoT also called on party members to unite, set aside internal differences, and focus on rebuilding the party in the interest of democracy and the electorate.
It stressed that reconciliation and stability are now top priorities as the party seeks to recover from its internal leadership challenges.
