OGUN POLITICS: OPPOSITION NO THREAT TO YAYI, SAYS EX-LAWMAKER

A lawyer and former federal lawmaker, Kayode Oladele, has predicted that opposition parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stand little or no chance in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

In a statement released on Thursday, Oladele argued that the opposition’s chances are weakened by poor leadership choices, declining party structures, and increasing defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He specifically criticised the PDP’s reported plan to field its 2023 governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, again in 2027, saying the move raises concerns about equity, strategy, and leadership capacity.

According to him, zoning concerns within Ogun State politics could also affect the opposition’s chances, especially with debates around representation across different senatorial districts.

Oladele further claimed that opposition parties are losing ground due to the ongoing movement of key members and grassroots supporters into the APC.

He added that the political environment in Ogun State is increasingly favouring the APC, which he described as the dominant force with stronger organisation and wider acceptance.

He also pointed to the growing popularity of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing him as a consensus figure within the APC ahead of 2027.

Oladele said Adeola’s political influence, track record, and grassroots connection have positioned him as a leading contender in the race.

He concluded that governance in Ogun State requires experience and strategic leadership, arguing that the APC currently holds a clear advantage going into the election.
