A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tolu Bankole, has said that the ongoing economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are designed to deliver long-term gains that will ultimately benefit Nigerian workers.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja to mark International Workers’ Day, Bankole described workers as the backbone of national development, praising their resilience in the face of economic pressures and rising living costs.
He noted that although the current reforms may come with short-term adjustments, they are aimed at repositioning the economy for stability, growth, and improved living standards in the future.
“Our party’s policies are not driven by short-term considerations alone, but by a long-term national vision to build a stronger, more prosperous, and globally competitive Nigeria. This journey is ultimately for the benefit of all Nigerians, especially our workers,” he said.

Bankole added that early indicators of progress were already becoming visible across key sectors such as education and public institutions, which he said are beginning to show signs of improved stability.
While acknowledging that the full benefits of the reforms are still unfolding, he expressed optimism that Nigerian workers would eventually be among the biggest beneficiaries once the policies fully take effect.
“What we are seeing today are encouraging early gains, but the bigger rewards are ahead. When the dividends of these policies mature fully, Nigerian workers will be the greatest beneficiaries,” he added.
The APC chieftain also urged workers to remain patient and continue engaging constructively with government policies, stressing that economic recovery is a gradual process that requires collective effort.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to workers’ welfare, saying it remains central to its governance agenda, particularly in areas of economic stability, job creation, and improved living conditions.
Bankole concluded by wishing Nigerian workers a peaceful and fulfilling Workers’ Day celebration, while expressing solidarity with the labour movement across the country.
