‘THEY KILLED DADIYATA IN MY PRESENCE’: EX-ZAMFARA GOV MATAWALLE’S FORMER AIDE ALLEGES POLICE USED ACTIVIST’S KILLING TO THREATEN HIM

Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to the current Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has accused senior police officers of threatening his life during an interrogation in 2021 and warning him against revealing his ties to the minister.

Kamarawa alleged that the officers subjected him to intimidation, illegal detention, extortion, and unlawful seizure of his money and personal belongings without due legal process. He also claimed his residence was searched without a valid court warrant.

The former aide called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate two senior officers, CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba, over alleged abuse of office and violations of his fundamental rights.

According to Kamarawa, investigators repeatedly pressured him not to mention his relationship with Matawalle while recording statements and videos during interrogation. He claimed the officers threatened to kill him and referenced the disappearance of activist Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, as a warning.

Kamarawa further alleged that the officers were more interested in questioning him about his connection to former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, whom he described as their main target.

Dadiyata, a lecturer and social media commentator, disappeared in August 2019 after he was reportedly abducted from his residence in Kaduna State by unidentified gunmen. His whereabouts remain unknown, and the case has continued to attract public attention and demands for justice.

Earlier this year, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai alleged during a television interview that former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had issues with Dadiyata before his disappearance. El-Rufai stated that Kaduna authorities only became aware of the matter after the activist’s family reported the incident to the police.

The disappearance of Dadiyata has remained one of Nigeria’s most controversial unresolved cases, with civil society groups and members of the public continuing to demand accountability and clarity over what happened to him.
