The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in the Rigasa area of Kaduna State after he went on the run following his corruption conviction.

He was picked up in the early hours of Tuesday after weeks of surveillance and intelligence-led tracking by EFCC operatives.
According to the EFCC, Mamman was convicted by the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 7, 2026 on 12 counts related to the diversion of funds meant for the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects. The court found that he was guilty of misappropriating billions of naira intended for key national infrastructure.

The Commission stated that the former minister went underground after failing to appear in court for sentencing, prompting a bench warrant for his arrest.

Justice James Omotosho, in his ruling, held that the prosecution successfully proved its case, establishing that over ₦22 billion was diverted through proxy companies and associates. The court described the act as a serious breach of public trust.

Mamman, who served as Minister of Power between 2019 and 2021, was sentenced to multiple prison terms totaling 75 years, with some counts carrying no option of fine.
He is also facing a separate corruption case at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja involving allegations of a ₦31 billion fraud, with another arrest warrant previously issued after he failed to appear in court.
