GHANA CRIME SWEEP: EIGHT NIGERIANS ARRESTED IN MAJOR CRACKDOWN

The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight Nigerian nationals along with 66 other individuals during coordinated intelligence-driven anti-narcotics and crime suppression operations carried out in the Upper East Region.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the operations focused on cracking down on drug trafficking, violent offences, and other criminal activities in border communities and identified crime hotspots.

The first raid took place on May 20, 2026, at Paga along the Ghana–Burkina Faso border buffer zone, where 40 suspects were apprehended. Those arrested included 23 Ghanaians, eight Nigerians, six Burkinabés, one Malian, and one Togolese national, comprising 28 men and 12 women.

Authorities also recovered suspected narcotics packaged in parcels and sacks, alongside five motorbikes allegedly used for distribution.

A second operation on May 22, 2026, in the Navrongo Municipality led to the arrest of 34 additional suspects, made up of 32 men and two women. Police also seized 11 motorbikes, quantities of suspected illegal drugs, and assorted foreign cigarettes.

All suspects were later arraigned before High Court Two, presided over by Justice Ernest Pascal Gemadzie. Sixteen suspects were remanded in custody and are scheduled to reappear on June 4, 2026, while 22 others are currently undergoing profiling for further investigation.

Authorities confirmed that all individuals remain in custody as investigations continue, with efforts ongoing to track down other suspects linked to the criminal networks.
