The football community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of former Southampton and Royal Antwerp forward Victor Udoh, who reportedly died at the age of 21.
According to reports by Vanguard, the young striker was found dead in Abuja under circumstances described as suspicious.
Sources said Udoh had gone out with friends on Sunday evening but was discovered lifeless the next morning, sparking speculation that food or alcohol poisoning may have been involved. However, authorities are yet to release an official autopsy report confirming the exact cause of death.
The footballer had recently returned to Nigeria for a holiday after completing the season with Czech club Dynamo Ceske Budejovice, which he joined after leaving Southampton last year.

Udoh first rose to prominence during his time at Belgian side Royal Antwerp, where he impressed with 12 goals in 21 reserve team appearances before earning promotion to the first team, making 28 appearances for the club.
His performances later earned him a three-and-a-half-year deal with English side Southampton in early 2025. He featured mainly for the club’s under-21 development squad before both parties agreed to part ways so he could secure regular senior football in the Czech Republic.
Tributes have continued to pour in from former clubs, teammates, and fans following the heartbreaking news.
In a statement, Royal Antwerp FC expressed sadness over his passing and extended condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.
Southampton FC also released a statement saying the club was devastated by the loss of its former academy player.
Meanwhile, police authorities in Abuja have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident as the football world continues to mourn a promising talent whose career was cut short at a young age.
