The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has commenced the enforcement of a Lagos State High Court judgment settling a longstanding dispute over a 114.476-hectare property in Ogombo Village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The development followed the adoption of the Terms of Settlement reached by the parties involved in the dispute by Justice Olukayode Ogunjobi of the Lands Division of the Lagos State High Court.

The case involved competing interests in the estate of the late Iyalode Efunroye Tinubu and members of the Kosoko Royal Family.

The disputed property, covered by Survey Plan No. OGJ/5283/006/2023/LA dated October 26, 2023, is at the centre of the settlement.

Under the agreement adopted as the court’s judgment, a total of N1.5 billion was approved as settlement and compensation, payable within 45 days of the judgment. The parties are also expected to fulfil other obligations contained in the Terms of Settlement.

Following the court’s decision, the Inspector-General of Police directed the Police Legal Services Directorate to take steps towards enforcing the judgment.

A letter dated July 30, 2025, from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja, conveyed the directive to the Directorate of Legal Services.

The letter, referenced CB:3594/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.14/101, was titled, “Request for the Enforcement of the Ruling of the High Court of Lagos in the Ikeja Judicial Division in Suit No. 124/1912.”

The communication followed a July 17, 2025 letter from Abdurahim Opoku Shaibu & Associates, which was forwarded to the Director of Legal Services for necessary action.

The land dispute has historical roots dating back more than a century. Among the documents associated with the case is a 1912 survey plan prepared by the late Herbert Macaulay, as well as an earlier Supreme Court judgment relating to competing claims over the property.

After years of legal proceedings and negotiations, the parties eventually reached an agreement, which was formally adopted by the Lagos State High Court as its judgment.

The police enforcement directive now marks a new phase in the matter, moving the dispute from judicial settlement to implementation of the court-approved agreement.

The enforcement involves the disputed 114.476-hectare property, the N1.5 billion settlement and other obligations contained in the Terms of Settlement.
