WIKE-BACKED PDP SUSPENDS BODE GEORGE AND 23 OTHERS OVER ‘ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES’

Lagos PDP Crisis Deepens as Wike-Backed Faction Suspends Bode George, 23 Others

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the suspension of party elder statesman Chief Bode George and 23 other members over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced on Friday by the Lagos PDP Disciplinary Committee, led by its chairman, Kayode Ogunbiyi, and secretary, Desmond Agho.

According to the committee, the decision followed a meeting held on Tuesday where several petitions accusing the affected members of violating the party’s constitution and engaging in activities detrimental to the PDP were reviewed.

Among those suspended are Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shelle, Sunday Olaifa, Gbenga Adegbesan, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor, Onikepo Oshodi, Idera Sodipo, Adedipe Ewenla, Bode Ogundipe, Aminu Suleiman, Roli George, Adetokunbo Pearse, Adeyemi Moyegun, Taiwo Kuye, Setonji Koshoedo, Muritala Ashorobi, Amos Fawole and Olumuyiwa Richard.

The committee alleged that the suspended members had been fraternising with rival political parties in ways that undermined the interests of the PDP in Lagos State.

It stated that the affected individuals would no longer participate in party activities or represent the PDP in any official or unofficial capacity while the suspension remains in force.

The faction also warned that further legal action could be taken against any suspended member found acting against the party’s interests.

The latest development is another chapter in the ongoing power struggle within the PDP, particularly between supporters of Chief Bode George and the camp loyal to Nyesom Wike.

George, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, has been one of the most vocal critics of Wike’s influence within the party. Their longstanding political rivalry escalated further after a faction linked to Wike reportedly expelled George from its structure last year.

The suspension is expected to deepen divisions within the Lagos PDP as the party continues to grapple with internal conflicts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
