AKWA IBOM GOV SACKS APC MEMBER AS MEDIA AIDE FOR ASKING TINUBU TO RESIGN OVER RISING INSECURITY

A media aide in the office of the Political Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has been dismissed after allegedly making a Facebook post questioning President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and suggesting he should have resigned over Nigeria’s challenges.

The aide, identified as Osborne Okon, was relieved of his duties on Tuesday through a letter signed by the Political Adviser to the Governor, Godwin Ntuk Udeh.

In the letter, the state government cited “acts bordering on disloyalty” and the need to maintain discipline within the office as reasons for the termination of his appointment, which took immediate effect.

Okon’s dismissal reportedly followed a social media post in which he expressed criticism of the President, stating that in a “proper system,” Tinubu would have resigned from office due to prevailing national difficulties, while also noting his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The post quickly circulated online and drew attention, particularly given that Governor Umo Eno had recently aligned politically with the APC after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.

Following his removal, Okon said he was not formally informed before the decision became public and only learned about it after being contacted by acquaintances who saw the letter circulating online.

He described the development as embarrassing and said he was surprised by the allegation of disloyalty, insisting he had not been warned of any wrongdoing prior to the termination.

Okon further stated that his engagement was based on informal arrangements and a modest monthly allowance, which he said he accepted while hoping for future opportunities.

Despite the controversy, he maintained that he remained supportive of the APC and Governor Umo Eno’s administration.

The incident has drawn public attention amid ongoing debates about free expression, political loyalty, and discipline within government offices.
