Sahara Group Foundation has expanded its waste-to-wealth programme to Northern Nigeria with the launch of a new Sahara Go Recycling Hub in Masaka, Nasarawa State.
The foundation announced in a statement that the facility was developed in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Waste Management Authority as part of efforts to improve structured recycling systems in northern communities and promote sustainable environmental practices.

According to the organisation, the initiative is designed to turn waste management into an economic opportunity by diverting recyclable materials from landfills, raising environmental awareness, and creating income streams for households.
Officials said the new Masaka hub will strengthen ongoing efforts to build sustainable ecosystems that benefit both communities and the environment while promoting long-term economic value.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Director of Sahara Group Foundation, Chidilim Menakaya, said the project reflects the organisation’s commitment to practical solutions that combine environmental protection with community empowerment.
He noted that the initiative demonstrates how collaboration between stakeholders can drive cleaner communities, improved livelihoods, and shared prosperity through scalable sustainability projects.
Also speaking, a representative of the Nasarawa State Waste Management Authority described the hub as a timely intervention that addresses waste management challenges while creating economic opportunities for residents.

He added that the facility would help improve environmental conditions in Masaka and surrounding areas while encouraging residents to derive value from recyclable materials.
The foundation stated that since the inception of the Sahara Go Recycling programme, more than 1,000 tonnes of recyclable waste have been processed, with over 2,000 people benefiting directly or indirectly through jobs and community-based economic activities.

It added that the initiative is also helping to reshape public attitudes towards recycling and promoting more sustainable lifestyles, especially in underserved communities.
The Masaka hub forms part of a broader expansion plan aimed at extending recycling infrastructure across Nigeria in support of environmental sustainability and community development.
