Iran’s former supreme leader Ali Khamenei is scheduled to be laid to rest on July 9, according to state television, following funeral ceremonies planned across several major cities in the country.
Reports say the burial will take place in Mashhad, his hometown in northeastern Iran, after a series of memorial events beginning in Tehran on July 4 and continuing in Qom on July 7 before the final interment.
The funeral arrangements were previously delayed due to ongoing conflict, but authorities have now confirmed a revised schedule spanning several days of national ceremonies.
State media also reported that Khamenei was killed in Israeli and US airstrikes earlier in the year, ending a leadership period that lasted nearly four decades.
Following his death, his son Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly assumed the position of supreme leader in March, although he has not made public appearances and is said to communicate through official statements.
The announcement comes amid continued regional tensions following recent military confrontations involving Iran and its allies.
