The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive inspection of projects across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The exercise is set to begin on Monday, June 22, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen oversight and ensure accountability in grassroots governance.

The Committee Chairman, Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde, explained that the initiative is in line with the Assembly’s constitutional duty to promote transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery at the local government level.
He said the inspection will allow lawmakers to physically assess ongoing and completed projects, verify their level of execution, and evaluate their impact on residents. It will also help ensure that public funds are properly managed and used for development purposes.
Babatunde noted that local governments play a vital role as the closest tier of government to the people, responsible for delivering essential services and infrastructure. He emphasised that all projects must meet approved standards and reflect the actual needs of communities.

He further clarified that the oversight exercise is not intended to target any local government authority but to improve governance, strengthen accountability, and encourage responsible use of public resources.
According to him, the committee remains committed to supporting policies that promote grassroots development, enhance local governance structures, and improve living conditions across Lagos State.

The inspection will cover key projects including road construction and rehabilitation, drainage systems, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, market developments, and other community-based initiatives executed by local councils.

The tour is expected to take place across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
