A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The court directed that Sowore remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of an application seeking a stay of the earlier order that revoked his bail and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The presiding judge subsequently fixed June 24 for the hearing of the application filed on behalf of the defendant by his newly engaged counsel.

The court had previously revoked Sowore’s bail and authorized his arrest after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing where he was expected to begin presenting his defence in the ongoing case against him.

Prior to the development, Sowore had chosen to represent himself following the withdrawal of his former legal team from the matter.
In a separate ruling delivered on Monday, the court also dismissed an application seeking the judge’s withdrawal from the case over allegations of bias, allowing the trial to continue under the same presiding judge.
