KANE’S LATE DOUBLE RESCUES ENGLAND FROM DR CONGO UPSET

England booked their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup after captain Harry Kane scored twice to inspire a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over a determined DR Congo on Wednesday night at Atlanta Stadium.

The Three Lions were pushed to the brink of a stunning elimination as DR Congo delivered an impressive performance and held the lead for much of the encounter before England staged a late turnaround.

The African side made a dream start, taking the lead just seven minutes into the match. Brian Cipenga capitalized on space down the wing and fired a powerful effort past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, sending DR Congo supporters into celebration.

England struggled to create clear-cut opportunities for much of the contest as the Congolese defence remained compact, disciplined, and difficult to break down. The European side appeared to be heading for one of the tournament’s biggest surprises before a tactical change shifted the momentum.

The introduction of Anthony Gordon proved decisive, with the winger making an immediate impact. In the 75th minute, he delivered an accurate cross into the box, allowing Harry Kane to rise highest and head home the equaliser.

Boosted by the goal, England intensified their attack and completed the comeback 10 minutes later. Kane collected the ball inside the attacking area and unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner to secure victory and send his team into the next stage of the competition.

England will now face co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16 at the iconic Estadio Azteca on Monday, July 6, while DR Congo bows out of the tournament after producing a courageous display that tested one of football’s traditional powerhouses until the closing stages.
