U.S @ 250: SANWO- OLU, OBAIGBENA, PRINCESS GLORIA OF NATIONAL PATRIOTS ATTEND U.S CONSULATE’S 250TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY IN LAGOS (VIDEO)

The United States Consulate-General in Lagos has hosted a reception to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American Independence Day, marking the launch of a yearlong programme tagged “Freedom 250.”

The event, held at the residence of the U.S. Consul General in Ikoyi, brought together senior government officials, diplomats, business leaders, cultural figures, and members of the media to celebrate 250 years since the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.

The reception was co-hosted by Keith Heffern, Chargé d’Affaires, and Rick Swart, who both highlighted the importance of continued partnership and shared democratic values between the United States and Nigeria.

According to the consulate, the celebration reflects long-standing diplomatic relations and cooperation between both countries across governance, economy, and cultural exchange.

Dignitaries at the event included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, political economist Pat Utomi, media executive Nduka Obaigbena, economist Bismarck Rewane, and other notable figures from government, academia, and civil society.

The creative and entertainment industry was also well represented, with attendees such as comedians, content creators, musicians, and cultural icons, including Taaooma, Mama Deola, Gaise Baba, Goge Africa producers Isaac and Nneka Moses, textile artist Nike Davies-Okundaye, and Afrobeat musician Made Kuti.

The event featured musical performances, including renditions of the Nigerian and United States national anthems by Yinka Davies, as guests reflected on diplomatic ties and cultural collaboration between both nations.
