ARABAMBI GIVES PETER OBI SEVEN DAYS TO RETRACT ALLEGED DEFAMATORY REMARK, DEMANDS N50BN

The South-West Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to former presidential candidate Peter Obi, demanding a public retraction, apology, and ₦50 billion in damages over alleged defamatory remarks.

The demand was contained in a 13-page pre-action letter dated July 3, 2026, issued through Neplus Ultra Attorneys, following comments allegedly made by Obi during an interview on Nevon Media Podcast.

Arabambi’s legal team claims Obi stated that the party chieftain “does not have an address,” a remark they describe as false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation.

According to the lawyers, the statement portrayed Arabambi as a faceless and unidentifiable individual lacking credibility, legitimacy, and standing in public life. They argued that the comments were widely circulated across television stations and social media platforms, intensifying the reputational harm.

The legal team further stated that Arabambi is a known public figure with verifiable residential and political affiliations, insisting that the allegation was misleading and defamatory.

They also accused Obi of making the statement recklessly during a widely viewed interview, noting that his position as a prominent political figure should have required greater responsibility in his public remarks.

As part of their demands, the lawyers requested an immediate retraction on the same platform where the statement was allegedly made, as well as a national television apology and full-page newspaper publications across major Nigerian dailies, all subject to their approval.

In addition, they are seeking ₦50 billion in compensation for alleged damage to Arabambi’s reputation, dignity, and political standing.

The letter also warned Obi to preserve all materials related to the interview, including recordings and digital records, ahead of possible legal proceedings.

Arabambi’s legal team stated that failure to comply within seven days would result in a lawsuit seeking damages, injunctions, and other reliefs, describing the letter as a final opportunity for an amicable resolution.
