SEGALINK EXPLAINS WHY PETER OBI FACES STEEP HURDLES IN PRESIDENTIAL BID

Social commentator and advocate for institutional reform, Segun Awosanya, widely known as Segalink, has expressed doubts about Peter Obi’s suitability to lead Nigeria, describing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate as a politician whose popularity is fueled by public frustration rather than unifying leadership.

Speaking during a political interview, Awosanya said Obi’s political approach relies heavily on appealing to dissatisfied citizens instead of presenting the qualities needed to govern the country effectively.

According to him, Obi’s public image differs from his actual political conduct, insisting that Nigerians should carefully assess the character of those seeking leadership positions.

Awosanya further alleged that Obi’s political influence is largely driven by online supporters whom he accused of attacking opponents and promoting intimidation in pursuit of political power.

Reacting to suggestions that his criticism was influenced by disagreements with supporters of the Obidient movement, Awosanya dismissed the claim, stating that he has no personal dispute with the group and remains focused on his own activities.

He also alleged that some members of the Obidient movement attempted to use the #EndSARS protests to advance political interests, claiming they turned against other participants after failing to achieve their objectives.

Explaining why he had previously praised Obi, Awosanya said his earlier remarks were based on Obi’s comments concerning vulnerable Nigerians at the time, stressing that they were observations rather than endorsements.

Despite those earlier commendations, Awosanya maintained that Obi does not possess the qualities needed to become Nigeria’s president. He accused the former Anambra State governor of promoting division during his time in office and argued that some of the positions Obi now advocates contradict his past actions.

He concluded by cautioning Nigerians against accepting widely shared social media narratives as facts, saying the popularity of a claim does not automatically make it true.
