Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has called on Nigeria’s security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue residents of his constituency who remain in captivity following the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, Ndume urged the military to focus more attention on Borno South, where he said many residents are still being held by kidnappers and insurgents.

His appeal came after schoolchildren and teachers who were abducted in Oyo State on May 15, 2026, regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity. One of the teachers was reportedly killed during the period of the abduction before the remaining victims were rescued.

Ndume disclosed that about 42 people, including children, are currently being held captive in his senatorial district. He added that more than 30 residents from Lassa were recently abducted, while over 50 others remain in captivity in another location. According to him, although some victims from a larger group of abducted persons have been released, many are still awaiting rescue.

The senator expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to tackle the situation, stressing that they require adequate support, training, equipment, air power, and motivation to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
He also praised the security forces for the recent rescue operation in Oyo State, noting that several suspected kidnappers were killed while others were arrested during the mission. He said the arrests could provide valuable intelligence to strengthen future operations against criminal groups.

Ndume urged the military to build on the success of the rescue by stepping up efforts to secure the release of captives in communities including Mussa, Lassa, Muoshi, and areas along the Buratai axis.
