COURT ORDERS PERMANENT FORFEITURE OF LAGOS SOCIALITE’S ASSETS IN ALLEGED DRUG TRAFFICKING CASE

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of four properties allegedly linked to Lagos socialite Suleiman Aremu, popularly known as “Barryshine” and “Ejeoto,” to the Federal Government over suspected proceeds of drug trafficking.

Justice Musa Kakaki issued the ruling after determining that the properties were reasonably believed to have been acquired using funds generated from unlawful activities, particularly drug trafficking.

The order followed an application filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Suit No. FHC/L/MISC/1344/2025, seeking the permanent forfeiture of the assets.

Representing the NDLEA, counsel Abu Ibrahim argued that investigations showed the properties were purchased with proceeds from alleged drug-related activities. Legal representatives also appeared on behalf of the respondent during the court proceedings.

Delivering judgment, Justice Kakaki held that the NDLEA had presented sufficient evidence to justify the final forfeiture of the properties to the Federal Government.

The affected properties are located at 55, 55A, 63, and 72 Queen Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State.

The ruling brings to an end the forfeiture proceedings initiated by the NDLEA in 2025 over assets allegedly connected to suspected drug trafficking activities involving the Lagos socialite.
