The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced a new biometric facial recognition system, known as V-Pass, to enhance passenger processing and improve security across domestic airports under its management.
The initiative was announced in a statement shared on FAAN’s official X account, following the Federal Government’s approval of the biometric passenger identity verification system aimed at strengthening airport security and eliminating gaps in passenger identification.

According to FAAN, passengers will only need to complete a one-time registration before using the V-Pass platform for future travel. Once enrolled, travelers can verify their identity through facial recognition, allowing for faster and more seamless processing at automated e-Gates.
The authority said the new system is designed to reduce dependence on physical identification documents, improve security checks and shorten waiting times for passengers.

FAAN also noted that V-Pass was developed in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), with data privacy and security forming a key part of the platform’s design. The agency added that details on public awareness campaigns and nationwide implementation will be announced in due course.

The Federal Government approved the rollout of the biometric verification system in April 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s aviation sector through technology-driven solutions.

The V-Pass initiative complements the government’s deployment of electronic immigration gates at major international airports, further supporting efforts to improve passenger experience, strengthen security and enhance operational efficiency across the country’s aviation industry.
