The late Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, was buried in Ketu, Lagos, on Tuesday, with family members, colleagues, friends, and supporters gathering to pay their final respects.
Videos circulating on social media showed a large number of mourners attending the burial ceremony as emotions ran high following his death.
Ajiboye died after sustaining gunshot wounds during an attack by unidentified gunmen who reportedly opened fire on his vehicle in the Fadeyi area of Lagos on Sunday evening.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident and stated that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Chairman of the NURTW, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, described the deceased as a loyal associate, trusted friend, and dedicated union leader whose contributions to the union would not be forgotten.
He said Ajiboye’s commitment, support, and service to the union had left a lasting impact on those who worked closely with him.
As of the latest update, the police had not released additional information regarding the investigation into the killing, while speculation surrounding the motive for the attack continued.
