FIFA has outlined key recommendations for Nigeria’s football authorities as the country begins preparations for the qualification campaign for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the world football governing body acknowledged Nigeria’s rich football talent but emphasized that long-term success will depend on creating a stable and well-organized system rather than relying solely on player ability.
The guidance comes after the Super Eagles failed to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Nigeria finished second behind South Africa in Group C before losing the play-off final to DR Congo, ending their hopes of reaching the tournament.
Although some media reports described FIFA’s remarks as a warning, the organization’s message was largely focused on offering constructive advice aimed at improving the team’s future prospects.
Football stakeholders have also stressed the importance of reducing administrative and political interference, maintaining continuity in the coaching setup, and improving player management and logistics to strengthen Nigeria’s chances of returning to the global stage.
FIFA stated that Nigeria possesses immense football potential because of its consistent production of talented players. However, the organization noted that qualifying for the 2030 World Cup will depend more on establishing a solid and stable football structure capable of delivering consistent performances.
