The Nigerian Army has recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition after troops raided a suspected criminal hideout in Rivers State during an intelligence-led operation.
The operation was carried out on July 23, 2026, by troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, targeting a forest hideout at Awara Community Waterside in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and along the Omoku–Ogbaku–Ndoni axis.
According to the Army, the forest enclave was believed to have served as a base where suspected criminals planned kidnapping operations and attacks against security personnel and civilians.
In a statement released on Friday, the Army said the raid followed credible intelligence and formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across the region.
During the operation, troops recovered one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The Army noted that the latest recovery marks the fourth successful seizure of illegal arms and ammunition by its troops within the past two weeks, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations.
It added that sustained military offensives have continued to limit the activities of criminal groups operating in the region.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining aggressive operations in collaboration with other security agencies until criminal elements are completely dismantled and brought to justice.
The Army also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid ongoing operations.
It added that troops remain on the ground and will continue clearing the area to eliminate all criminal activities.
