A young Nigerian woman, Ugochukwu (Ugochi) Nwabugo, who is reportedly from the family of the late Ejimmaduekwu Okpara of Abajah in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State, is said to be fighting for her life after sustaining severe injuries from a fall in India.
According to reports circulating on social media and shared by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Nwabugo allegedly jumped from a six-storey building while trying to escape from Indian law enforcement officers.
However, the exact details of the incident, including when and where it happened and the specific agency involved, have not been independently confirmed.
Ejimakor and other social media users have appealed to the public to help locate and contact Nwabugo’s family in Imo State as quickly as possible.
“We are sharing this information in the hope of locating and contacting her family as soon as possible,” the appeal stated, urging anyone with useful information about her relatives to come forward.
The appeal said her family needs to be informed about her medical condition and called on Nigerians both at home and abroad to help spread the message until they are reached.
Supporters also prayed for her recovery, expressing hope that she survives the incident.
The development has renewed calls for undocumented migrants and foreign nationals living overseas to avoid taking life-threatening risks when confronted by immigration or law enforcement officials.
The appeal stressed that, no matter how difficult deportation or immigration challenges may be, they are not worth risking one’s life.
“As painful as deportation may be, it is far better than losing your life in a preventable tragedy,” the statement added, while asking Nigerians to keep Ugochi in their prayers and continue sharing the information until her family is found.
