NDLEA Intercepts Cocaine Concealed in Phone Chargers Bound for Saudi Arabia
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of cocaine concealed inside phone chargers and allegedly destined for Saudi Arabia.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the seizure in a post on X on Sunday, warning that drug traffickers are increasingly disguising illicit substances in ordinary household items to evade detection.
According to Babafemi, the items appeared to be ordinary phone chargers on the surface, but further checks by NDLEA operatives revealed that they had been modified to conceal cocaine.
“On the surface value, these are phone chargers but @ndlea_nigeria officers won’t fall for that. Concealed in there are consignments of cocaine going to Saudi Arabia,” he said.
The seizure highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods being employed by drug traffickers to move illicit substances through Nigeria’s borders and international transportation networks.
Babafemi also renewed the agency’s warning to members of the public against accepting or helping to transport parcels, luggage or other items on behalf of people they have not properly verified.
He stressed that seemingly harmless packages could contain illegal drugs or other prohibited substances, potentially exposing unsuspecting individuals to serious legal consequences.
“This is why we keep warning people not to help anyone deliver any parcel or luggage on their face value because of the desperation by traffickers,” Babafemi said.
The NDLEA has continued to intensify its efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit substances from being moved out of Nigeria through airports, seaports, courier services and other channels.
